MRS. LEONARD C. RICE
Died at Faxton Hospital in Utica, Yesterday, Where She Went To Undergo an Operation.
The many friends of Mrs. Leonard C. Rice, of Lowville, will be both shocked and pained to road of her death, which occurred yesterday afternoon at Faxton hospital in Utica, where she went to undergo an operation for the removal of a goitre, which had been growing for several years. Of late its growth had been apparently much more rapid and interfered with the action of the heart. Accompanied by her husband Mrs.Rice on Tuesday went to Utica, and the operation, which terminated in her death, was performed yesterday afternoon.
Mrs.Rice was a daughter of tho late Deacon Dennis Johnson and was born in Harrisburg 49 years ago. About 30 years ago she was united in marriage with Mr. Rice. She was a member of the Methodist church, a woman possessed of many amiable traits of character, and was greatly loved and respected by her many friends. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Charles and Albert Rice, and two daughters, Misses Vera and Clara Rice. She was a sister of Charles Johnson, of Lowville, and Mrs. George A. Stoddard, of Carthage. The remains will be brought to Lowville by the afternoon train to-day.
