Friday, at her home near this village, occurred the death of Ann Elmira Hess, wife of Alexander A. Hess. She was born 68 years ago being the daughter of Walter D. Higby, of Port Leyden. Mrs. Hess' death brings sorrow to many hearts, particularly as the 50th anniversary of their marriage was to be celebrated the 24th of this month and a family reunion was to have been held. Mr and Mrs. Hess have always resided, since their marriage, in this vicinity, and the past 45 years have been passed in their present home. Mrs. Hess was the mother of six children, all of whom are living, Elmer E. Hess, of Lyons Falls; Fred P. Hess, of Lyonsdale; Clayton D. Hess and Mrs. Charles Northrup, of Circleville, O.; Martin F. Hess, of Utica and Mrs. James Adams, of Brantingham. She leaves one brother, Marion R. Higby, of Bradgate, Ia., and a half-sister, Mrs. Alice Sands, of Port Leyden. The funeral services were held at the house Monday at 12 o'clock. Rev. Reuben Kline, of Port Leyden, officiating, assisted by Rev. W.C. Spicer. Interment was made in the Sands cemetery at Greig and the four sons acted as pall bearers.
